“The expression of locality lies not only in space and materials, but also in how architecture responds to the climate and reflects local ways of life.”
— Zhu Peidong
In response to the region’s tropical climate, the apartment adopts an enclosed layout inspired by the breeze wall, a typology commonly found in tropical architecture. This forms a well-ventilated and climate-friendly “Breeze Garden”, which acts as the core of natural ventilation and microclimate regulation, while also serving as a vibrant shared space that fosters communal life.
The exterior walls combine traditional red brick masonry techniques with modern construction methods to create a perforated “Bezeen Wall” that facilitates airflow and alleviates the challenges of heat and humidity. At the ground floor and courtyard levels, a series of amenities are provided to support the daily lives of residents—offering convenience for workers while remaining open and accessible to the surrounding community.
Locally sourced plants are introduced into the courtyard, complemented by a variety of shaded seating areas to create a cool, humid, and pleasant microclimate. This space becomes an ideal place for daily socializing and relaxation.
