“With the city as its backdrop and the theater as its stage, architecture and music intertwine—resonating through the urban fabric.”
— Zhu Peidong
Named after renowned Russian musician Joseph Kobzon (1937–2018), the Kobzon Music Hall and Arts Complex pays tribute to his outstanding contributions to music, culture, and society. Located in the Baumanskaya area of Moscow’s Central Administrative District—an area known for its historical architecture and cultural heritage—the project takes the establishment of the music hall as an opportunity to create a new cultural landmark integrating theater, commercial, office, and residential functions, injecting fresh energy and vitality into a neighborhood in gradual decline.
Conceived as a "Museum of the Future", the theater breaks away from conventional typologies with a flexible spatial system that allows it to transform between various functions—performance hall, concert venue, rehearsal space, and exhibition gallery—and opens itself to the city as a new public icon and urban echo of music.
The architectural form draws inspiration from instrumental windpipes and musical scales, stacking its diverse programs vertically like a three-dimensional symphony. The flowing and translucent glass façade mimics the rhythm of sound waves, while metallic lines accentuate portions of the surface like the dance of piano keys.
