The 2025 Architizer A+Awards has officially announced this year’s final winners. “Kimpton Huangshan,” designed by Meng Fanhao, co-founder and lead architect at line+, stood out from thousands of entries to receive the Jury Winner in the “Unbuilt Hospitality” category—after first being shortlisted as one of the global top five in this field. This prestigious recognition, conferred by the A+Awards’ distinguished jury panel, celebrates the project’s outstanding achievements in formal aesthetics, functional innovation, and social impact.
“My vision for the Kimpton Huangshan goes beyond constructing a modern dwelling. I aim to stir emotional resonance through the immersive experience of the space, continuing the evolving spirit of contemporary Huizhou.” — Meng Fanhao
Located in the historic town of Xiuli—often referred to as “a painted scroll of Huizhou and southern Anhui villages”—and in close proximity to heritage sites like Xidi and Hongcun, Kimpton Huangshan revisits the spiritual dimensions of Huizhou culture through a contemporary lens. The design draws upon traditional settlement patterns, interpreting the craft of spatial organization, the finesse of construction, and the innovation of sensory experience. Through a study of the Huizhou vernacular fabric, it reimagines the typology of courtyard dwellings, integrating the motif of 'four streams returning to the hall' and the rhythmic scale of streets and lanes. Responding sensitively to the complex terrain of steep slopes, gentle inclines, and valleys, the design layers courtyards and zones in a terraced arrangement shaped by the site and its landscape.
Since its inception in 2013, the Architizer A+Awards has grown into one of the most influential international honors in the fields of architecture and product design. With an annual award rate of less than 5%, the program maintains rigorous standards of excellence. This award not only affirms line+'s architectural philosophy, but also signals a continued expression of Chinese design voices on the global stage.
