◻️ About the Cass Gilbert Lecture Series
The Cass Gilbert Lecture Series is supported by the Cass Gilbert Foundation in honor of Cass Gilbert, a pivotal figure in American architectural history. His major works include the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul, the U.S. Custom House in New York, and the U.S. Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C. The series brings distinguished architects, designers, and scholars from around the world to foster critical dialogue on architecture, urbanism, and the built environment.
◻️ About the University of Minnesota School of Architecture
The University of Minnesota—recognized as one of America’s “Public Ivies” and home to 25 Nobel laureates—houses one of the nation’s oldest architecture programs, founded in 1913. The School of Architecture has earned a distinguished reputation through its faculty and alumni, many of whom are Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and recipients of major awards at the local, national, and international levels, including the Rome Prize and the Guggenheim Fellowship.
From the foundational work of early pioneers such as Frederick Mann and Clarence Johnston, to the modernist leadership of Ralph Rapson, and to today’s interdisciplinary educational vision, the school has consistently advanced design as a form of civic responsibility, cultural expression, and environmental agency. It is regarded as one of the most influential architecture schools in the United States.
