line+NEWS

Since releasing its first Chinese monograph Empowering Spaces in 2021, line+ has once again collaborated with Professor Li Xiangning, Vice President of Tongji University, as Editor-in-Chief to release its new English monograph Shaping Changes, published worldwide by Images Publishing Group in Australia.

Edited by Li Xiangning and authored by Meng Fanhao and Zhu Peidong, with essays by Aric Chen and Liu Yuyang, Shaping Changes presents 19 representative projects completed by line+ between 2018 and 2024. The book offers a clear view of the studio’s recent explorations across different scales and types, its cross-disciplinary approaches within the context of contemporary Chinese architecture, and its latest international projects.
RE-ASSEMBLING
Since the Rural Revitalization Strategy was introduced in 2017, rural development has become a national priority. line+ believes that architecture should no longer be viewed as an isolated object, but as part of a broader social network—one that activates existing resources and introduces new opportunities through spatial intervention. The five projects in this chapter adopt different strategies, yet all aim to generate new cultural, economic, and social value for the countryside.
RE-CALLING
Architecture offers shelter not only physically but spiritually. Through spatial order, orchestrated scenes, light, nature, materiality, and craftsmanship, it evokes tactile and bodily perception, as well as individual and collective memory. The five projects in this chapter vary in scale and function but share the common ambition of guiding people back to sources of memory and meaning in an increasingly fast-paced world.
RE-CONNECTING
In a time of social atomization and increasing disconnection, how can space rebuild bonds between individuals? This chapter covers a wide range of typologies— infrastructure, factories, schools, creative campuses, and corporate headquarters. Across these varied contexts, line+ consistently seeks to strengthen human connection through shared spatial experiences.
RE-WORLDING
Chinese architects are gaining increasing influence within global architectural culture. Against this backdrop, line+’s recent overseas projects signal a new stage—one in which a new generation of Chinese architects is entering the global arena with confidence. Unlike the earlier generation’s largely individual pursuits, line+’s international work reflects the export of methodologies and insights shaped by contemporary Chinese urbanization.
